The Day of the African Child 16th June 2013

CGC spearheaded the commemoration of the Day of the African Child in Kamira Sub County - Nambeere Parish Galikwoleka LC1 in Luwero District. The major aim of the event was to sensitize members of the community about respecting, promoting and protecting child rights. 10 schools participated in the activity including Mazzi Secondary School, Galikwoleka Primary School, Sayuni Primary School, Nambeere, Kaukauno and Kabakunga Primary Schools. The event was colourful with different presentations from children around the theme.

Participants were sensitized on children's rights and responsibilities, knowledge on succession, information on property ownership like land and legal mechanisms for child protection. Over 80 people took a voluntary HIV Test and those found positive were advised to seek medical treatment at Lachor Bishop Asili Hospital and Kasana Health Centre IV.

On another front, CGC is part of the child rights cluster established by HURINET (Human Rights Network) Uganda. The Child Rights cluster also commemorated the Day of the African Child in Lyantonde District spear headed by RACOBAO - Rakai Community Based AIDS organization one of the cluster member organizations.

CGC was participated in this event as well, through exhibiting and showcasing different interventions and contribution to their areas of operation. The theme dubbed; "Eliminating harmful social and cultural practices," was well sensitized with different presentations from children and speeches from community members.
