CGC Observes the DEAR day

DEAR day at Kiwoko P/S
It was exciting and encouraging to see staff at CGC DROP EVERY THING AND READ something for at least 20 minutes at exactly 11:00am local time on 17th March 2016. D.E.A.R stands for Drop Everything and Read for 20 minutes. DEAR day is an international day which was gazetted by United States of America Aid. It was introduced with the aim of promoting the reading culture and to remind folks of all ages to make reading a priority activity in their lives. In Uganda DEAR DAY was organized by Peace Corps in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Sports, together with other stakeholders to create the following vision—at the exact same time, on the very same day, everyone in schools or community organizations across Uganda puts down what they are doing and engages in reading.

CGC took this day seriously and engaged the nearby schools in reading. CGC engaged Kalinabiri Primary school, in Nakawa division, Kiwoko Primary school in Nakaseke district, and Mazzi SS in Luwero district to read. CGC provided some of the literature that was read. In total 42 teachers, 1,324 pupils and 111 secondary school students were engaged in DEAR day.
